What do I need to do to prepare for the seminar?

You should be able to ice skate in a safe controlled manner.  You will not need a USA Hockey rule book for the seminar.  We will provide you with training manuals and all information needed.  Just show up with a good attitude, a pencil, and a notepad to jot down information you may need.

What will be covered in the seminar?

The seminar topics will deal primarily with positioning on the ice and how to handle game situations.  We do not go into the rules of the game in depth.  Of course, if someone has a rules question we will explain the rule and proper application of the rules.

How does this seminar tie into USA Hockey?

USA Hockey certification requires all officials to attend an 8 hour seminar and complete an On-Ice session as part of the annual registration process.  With proper attendance and completion of our On-Ice session, this seminar series will meet all of the USA Hockey seminar requirements.

What else is left to do with USA Hockey in order to begin working games?

You must register with USA Hockey.  After receipt of your registration form and payment of dues, you will be sent a new rule book.  Included with the rule book is an open book test, of which the first 50 questions must be answered and returned to USA Hockey.  They will grade the exam and if you pass, you will be sent your USA Hockey crest for 2008/2009 and your Level 1 certification card.
