Re: Required Background Check
Dear USA Hockey Official,
Effective October 1, 2014, the Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) will
require that all officials (age 18 or older) to have completed a background
check and will not permitted to work ANY USA Hockey sanctioned contest unless
that official has a current background check in place by November 30, 2014.
The background check process will begin on October 1, 2014 and in conjunction
with the USA Hockey Officials registration process, must be completed by
November 30, 2014. Any official without a completed background check on
December 1, 2014, cannot be assigned to work any USA Hockey contest. This
includes the completion of SAFE SPORT (if not completed last season). If
an official has a current background check, it must be valid until October 1,
2015. All background checks that expire prior to that date will require a new
background check to be completed. For those officials who have completed
background checks through the Junior Development Program or Coaching Program,
those background checks are good provided they do not expire prior to October 1,
2015. If your association has conducted a background checks, please forward a
list of officials who are in good standing to me. Please include the name of
your background check provider.
TAHA has contracted with NCSI to complete the process. Officials may go to
TAHA Background Screening Page. From there, the official may read the memo
posted under the “CURRENT” tab or go directly to the tab marked “BACKGROUND
SCREENING” and start the process. The cost for the background check is
individual’s responsibility. You may also post information on your association
web sites or send memos to each of your officials about this requirement.
An email from me will be released from USA Hockey to officials individually as
well.
Results will be forwarded to TAHA. I will be providing a list of
cleared officials to associations and assignors beginning November 19th
as I have in the past with USA Hockey registrations.
